Roberto Benigni takes the mickey out of Bruno Vespa, the joke about Berlusconi: "I want the cherry table"

Roberto Benigni

Show and irony at “Cinque Minuti” on Rai1: guest of Bruno Vespa, Roberto Benigni did not miss the opportunity to give a joke that made the audience and the host smile. During the promotion of his new book “Il Sogno”, Benigni joked about the famous moment in Italian politics when Silvio Berlusconi signed the “contract with the Italians” right in the Porta a Porta studios, using the famous cherry table. “I want his cherry table, the famous one, I want to sign my book as if it were the contract with the Italians”, Benigni told Vespa, who immediately got the allusion. Benigni continued the gag: “If you buy this book I will give you a million jobs, lower taxes…”, ironically quoting the proclamations of the former prime minister. An amarcord that brought to mind one of the most iconic and discussed episodes of Italian television and politics, between electoral promises and biting satire. The moment, relaunched on social media, garnered likes, comments and laughter from those who remember Berlusconi's "contract" as one of the symbols of the 2000s.
